Nepal Trade Union Congress (NTUC): The “Nepal Labour Union” of 1947 AD, initiated under the leadership of Girija Prasad Koirala was renamed “Nepal Trade Union Congress” after the reinstatement of democracy in 1990 AD.
The
NTUC has remained committed to the norm of nationality, institutional
democracy and socialism. On the basis of our ideology of Democratic
Socialism, NTUC has been advocating for representation at the policy
formulation level to ensure social justice for all workers. In order to
protect fundamental rights of workers and secure their rights to choose
their union, right to strike, right to organize and right to collective
bargaining, the two prominent Unions of Nepal; NTUC and DECONT united in
2007 AD to act together for justice, equality and freedom.
NTUC
was formed to secure fundamental economic, social benefits and dignity
to members. Since its inception, it has campaigned for a fair deal at
work and for social justice at home and abroad. Collective strength
offers insurance to members to fight against irrational, arbitrary and
illegal actions of employers. With its commitment to the democratic
movement of the state, NTUC provides a platform for its members to come
together and share their feelings, exchange notes and fight the employer
quite effectively whenever the employer goes off the track.
