Aiming to share the major findings of the Rapid Gender Assessment on Social Security in Nepal
,one day workshop has been concluded in Kathmandu .On the occasion ,Ms Ana Liza
U. Valencia,Programme Officer ,The Danish Trade Union Development Agency (DTDA),
Sub-regional Office Asia presented the findings . The presentation focused on Gender
impact of Nepal’s labor market conditions on Social Security needs and Gender
gaps in the Current Social Security System
The assessment was conducted in 2018 focusing 3 targeted
sectors in formal economy: Health, Banking/Finance, Factory/Industrial sector
and 3 targeted sectors in the informal Economy: Agriculture, Transportation and
Construction sector. The main objective of the Rapid assessment was to Identify
the most prominent gender issue and challenges in accessing social security and
in the implementation of the social security law in targeted sector ,Formulate a quick
assessment of the gender dimension as well as barriers to registration and
accessing of social security benefits among men and women workers in Nepal and
to Identify the Gender strategic interest and relationship between men and
women workers in promoting compliance and implementation of the social security
law in the target sector .
Altogether 20 participants including the leadership of three
trade unions. The programme was Chaired by ITUC-NAC President Mr Pushkar
Acharya and facilitated by ITUC-NAC Programme Manager Mr Gopal Ghimire.
